Dalam epik biografi yang memukau ini, jurnalis Amerika John Reed melakukan perjalanan heroik ke Rusia untuk mendokumentasikan Revolusi Bolshevik, hanya untuk kembali sebagai revolusioner yang berapi-api. Cintanya pada politik sayap kiri mempertemukannya dengan Louise Bryant, istri orang yang kelak menjadi ikon feminis.
