Di tengah kesuraman Italia pasca-Perang Dunia II, Antonio Ricci akhirnya mendapat pekerjaan sederhana: memasang poster. Namun, syaratnya adalah ia harus memiliki sepeda. Ketika sepedanya dicuri, Antonio dan putranya berkeliling Roma, berjuang mencari barang yang menentukan nasib mereka. Mereka menemukan sang pencuri, tetapi tanpa bukti, Antonio terpaksa menyerah.
